 Mixology Contest at Blush

In Honor of National Bourbon Month

Official Contest Rules*

There will be no registration fee associated with the contest.

Entries are limited to female mixologists currently active in the industry.

Each participant’s entry must be received via this online form no later than Midnight EST on September 4, 2010. Entries received after this time will be disqualified. Five (5) finalists and one (1) alternate will be selected, notified and announced by September 6, 2010.

If one of the five (5) finalists cannot be present to prepare the cocktail the evening of the competition, the cocktail cannot be prepared by a surrogate. In such an event, the cocktail of the entrant not present will be disqualified and the alternate will compete.

The contest will be executed on-site at Blush Boutique Nightclub in Wynn Encore, Las Vegas from 9-11pm on September 9, 2010.

Recipes should contain at least two alcoholic ingredients, one including Maker's 46: one must be utilized as a base spirit and one as a modifying spirit.

The base spirit (Maker's 46), will be provided. Modifying spirits, specialty fruits, specialty juices and unique garnishes are permitted. These shall be provided by the contestant. Standard fruit juices and garnishes will provided at the venue. Only products licensed with a distributor within the industry are permitted for use. (ie. home-made bitters and/or home-made simple syrups are excluded).

Contestants may use their own non-branded bar tools (ie. a competitive logoed supplier shaker). Uber Bar Tools are permitted.

Maximum number of alcohol and non-alcohol components should not exceed six (6), including drops, rinses, and dashes.

Batching for entries will begin at 7pm. Each entrant will be provided an apprentice from Crescent Bartending School to assist in this effort. This will provide for enough samples to be ready for consumer sampling and voting.

Each contestant will have 20 minutes total at the cocktail station. Time for preparing the cocktail in front of the judges should not exceed (5) five minutes from the start of preparation to service. The remaining 15 minutes will be used for judging by both the panel of judges and their peers in attendance. Each contestant will present (1) one cocktail for each judge on the panel. 3 oz. samples per entrant can be served to the guests in attendance at the event. The scoring for the winning cocktails will be as follows: 60% panel of judges; 40% consumer judging.
